Allow me to introduce myself…

A lot more things rhyme with the word fairy than I originally thought. Dairy, for instance—though I can’t very well name myself the Dairy Fairy, can I? That’s just misleading.

Scary? I hope I’m not frightening you. If I am, do forgive me.

Wary? Am I distrustful of suspicious-looking persons at the corner store and random emails in my inbox? Of course. Who wouldn’t be?

Contrary? Perhaps a bit. I’m stubborn when it comes to my convictions, but even then I am willing to hear and consider the opinions of others. My reasoning is that if I don’t bother to listen to other people, why should they bother to listen to me?

Merry? Why, yes. I am a merry sort of person indeed. You wouldn’t guess it sometimes. Lots of people don’t understand my sense of humor, so there—I’ve given you a fair warning. Turn back now while you still have a chance!

If you decided to stick around this long, thank you. I think you probably deserve an explanation. Why choose the name Arbitrary Fairy? It’s not because I make decisions on a whim, like the definition in the dictionary would have you believe. It’s because I flit between many different possibilities, weighing their merits and considering long and hard before I make a final decision about something. It’s what I do with chess games. It’s what I did with this blog post, and it’s what I’ll do with the ones to follow.

My goal for this blog is to bring a little light to the lives of my readers. Glimmers of it are all around, elusive but abundant. I hope that my writing makes you smile and perhaps even laugh. That is the kind of light I speak of, the kind that I desire to bring to you so that you can, in turn, share it with others. We are Lightbringers, you and I.

I don’t quite know what the substance of this blog will be just yet. I am a writer, so perhaps it will contain some tips, tricks, wanderings, warnings, rants, reviews, and all manner of poems, blurbs, short stories, and character interviews to delight the most bookish among my readership.

I am an artist as well, so perhaps this blog will contain pictures, sketches, and crafts, little snapshots of how I view the world—or how I believe it should be.

I love the great outdoors, despite living in an arid place that is devoid of what you might consider normal plant life. Perhaps that has taught me to find beauty in the smallest, most unassuming places.

I thrive on music. Suffice it to say, you might see me rant and rave about For King & Country, Owl City, NF, Celtic Woman, or Lindsey Stirling.

I am a fairly social person (which is to say that, contrary to popular belief, introverts do like people). You may see me collaborate with other bloggers, because I think that’s what they do. You may also see glimpses of my life and doings outside of the online world.

All of these aspects are what I believe describe me in a nutshell. But what would I look like if these defining factors disappeared? Who would I be at the deepest level? I can answer that with confidence—I am a Christ-follower first and foremost. My faith is the foundation of all I do, so you will see evidence of it in these blog posts.

Whether you share all—or just one—of the interests I listed above, please consider subscribing for more of my arbitrary blog posts. Like and leave a comment—maybe help me find more rhymes for fairy! Many thanks.

Farewell, fellow Lightbringers!

  1. I suppose the term “Lightbringers” means something not-so-sinister here.😂 That’s comforting. Congrats on the new blog, Ari!! Your first post is quite smashing! I loved it!😍
