When Am I Going to Publish My Book? (Project Update)

There are a lot of questions I ask myself every day. What am I going to eat for breakfast? (Usually cereal or yogurt with berries.) What should I do today? (Definitely something productive, right? That’s always the hope.) Why is my cat meowing for someone to pet him again? (He’s just a crybaby, I suppose.) What am I going to do with my life? (I haven’t figured that out quite yet.)

Another question that constantly haunts my steps is this: when am I going to publish my first book? I haven’t figured that out yet, either. My original goal was to do it before the summer ended, but looking at the calendar, it’s already September and I barely even have the final edit of the book done, not to mention the formatting and the cover. This is my first attempt at self-publishing, too. I’m definitely not an expert. All I know is what friends and the Internet have told me, and filling in the missing pieces is going to take a lot of head-scratching and hair-tugging.

I know I can pull it off, though. It’s not a question of if but when. Due to some unexpected setbacks, I won’t be able to self-publish before the summer ends. Not being able to carry out that goal is discouraging, but I’m going to press onward and tentatively set a new goal for sometime in the next six months.

Some of you might be wondering what this book is that I keep talking about. Well, I have explored a little of the book through my Storywell series, but I haven’t actually given a proper description of it. My book is called Ashen Blaze, and it’s the first in a series of five books called the Chronicles of Origin. The main character is a girl called Ariella, who I introduced in my first Storywell post. Here’s a quick synopsis of the story!

Ariella has lived in Karis her whole life, but when dragons attack, she and her brother Orin must flee their home and venture into the unknown. Mysteries surround their departure, and the deeper Ariella searches, the more questions arise. As strange visions begin to haunt her and enemies close in all around, Ariella wonders whether she will ever discover the truth about her home and her origin.

As of right now, my last few beta-readers are finishing up with the book and I am making another edit before letting my family read over it again. (You wouldn’t believe how much this book has been edited. One of the major edits I did last year cut out around twenty thousand unnecessary words, but added a few thousand others to patch plot holes, deepen characters, and just make the story a whole lot better.) I am also close to finishing a big edit of the second book in the series, which I have been wanting to do before publishing the first book just so I can make sure the story flows seamlessly between books and I have all my conspiracies sufficiently formulated.

This book has been a work of many years, and publishing it will be a huge milestone for me. I am closer to revealing my creation to the world than ever before, and it’s so unbelievably exciting! I am so grateful to everyone who has been with me along every step of this journey—especially to the One who put a story in my heart and told me to write it. So I have, and I can almost see the finish line in the distance. There might still be a mountain or two in the way, but it’s there nonetheless!

Thanks for reading this little project update! I hope you all are having a good weekend so far. 🙂 Until next time, my fellow Lightbringers!

  1. It may seem like it is delayed, but it will be done at just the right time…praying for wisdom and direction for the last leg of the journey. You’ve worked so hard.
